Parasite Collection and Reference Center
Parasite Collection and Reference Center

The Parasite Collection and Reference Center (PCRC) was built in July 1995 through the efforts of former dean Dr. Mauro F. Manuel and the faculty of the then Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Protozoology.

The PCRC houses the College’s collection of parasites such as helminthes, arthropods and protozoa, and a number of other invertebrates that serve as intermediate hosts of some of these parasites. It also displays a collection of parasites of domestic and wild animals in the country. Likewise, it holds parasitological literature donated by the late National Scientist and foremost Filipino parasito-logists Dr. Carmen C. Velasquez, and former dean Dr. Lope M. Yutuc, among others.

Through the Center, the College hopes to promote interest and knowledge of parasitology and host-parasite relationship, and generate and disseminate information on parasites present in the country, including their identification and systematic classification, prevention and control. PCRC is envisioned to eventually become a National Parasite Collection and Reference Center.
