Junsei Educational Institution

The Junsei Educational Institute of Okayama, Japan is a private educational institution organized and constituted under laws of Japan, specifically the Law of Private Schools. The institute composes of four affiliated schools namely Kibi International University, Junsei School of Nursing and Welfare, Kyushu University of Health and Welfare (KUHW), and the Institute of Health and Human Services of KUHW. The purpose of this collaboration is to develop academic and educational cooperation and promote mutual understanding between the two universities.

Collaborative activities in academic areas of interest on basis of equality and reciprocity include:

a.  Exchange of faculty, researchers, and other research and administrative staff
b.  Exchange of students
c.  Conduct of collaborative research projects
d.  Conduct of lectures and symposia
e.  Exchange of academic information and materials
f.   Promote other academic cooperation as mutually agreed

Periodically, professors and students from Kyushu University of Health and Welfare (KUHW) visit UPLB CVM. These exposure trips enable prospective students to get a glimpse of what it like being a Veterinary Medicine student here in the College. Thus, our Japanese guests also attend classes and check out the CVM facilities. In addition, they are provided both vehicular and on foot UPLB Campus Tour and visits to the Museum of Natural History here in UPLB and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Rice Museum. Due to these trips, several KUHW students have enrolled and graduated from UPLB CVM. Furthermore, KUHW also offers an Externship Training Grant open to graduating DVM students who wish to specialize in Small Animal practice. The grant includes  full support to two students per year, free externship training in a small animal hospital in Japan as well as roundtrip tickets, living expenses, and free accommodation in Japan.

 

Kumamoto University

The Kumamoto University, a globally active research university with roots in local communities, is located in Kumamoto, Japan. The purpose of this collaboration is to develop academic and educational cooperation and promote mutual understanding between the two universities.

Collaborative activities in academic areas of interest, on basis of equality and reciprocity include:

  • Exchange of faculty, researchers, and other research and administrative staff

  • Exchange of academic information and materials
  • Promote other academic cooperation as mutually agreed

The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kumamoto University conducts the Sakura Science Program. This program aims to:

  • encourage students from other countries to go to the PhD program in Kumamoto University (or other universities in Japan);
  • know the research activities and facilities in Kumamoto
    University;
  • experience the Japanese culture; and
  • learn about the agricultural and animal research facilities and industries in Kumamoto

CVM College Secretary Dr. Maria Catalina T. De Luna together with nine junior and senior students for the first batch in September 2016 and ten junior students for the second batch in December 2018 were given the opportunity to join the said program. Our students participated in laboratory classes and activities, listened to lectures, and took part in the workshop. This is indeed an educational and enriching experience as a Veterinary Medicine student.

University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno

The University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences BRNO (VFU) of the Czech Republic is National University established as a Public Higher Education Institute by Act No. 111/1998 Coll. The purpose of this collaboration is to develop academic and educational cooperation and promote mutual understanding between the two universities.
Collaborative activities in academic areas of interest, on basis of equality and reciprocity include:

On the 13th and 14th of March 2019, UPLB CVM and VFU jointly conducted “Wildlife and Medicine: A conservation medicine symposium and workshop” held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, UP Los Baños. This endeavor composed of a symposium on the first day and simultaneous workshops on “Parasitological Diagnosis” and “Angiostrongylus cantonensis” detection on the following day.

Three brand new Olympus CX23 biological microscopes, one stereo microscope, two WIFI microscope cameras, a monitor, a laptop, and a mini desktop centrifuge were gladly received in July 2020 by the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (DVCS). These equipment acquired through the Czech Development Grant, will be housed in the Conservation Medicine Laboratory located in DVCS.
