Academic Excellence Awards

1. Professor Jose A. Solis Memorial Award in Veterinary Anatomy

Year Instituted: 1985

This is awarded to a graduating student who has obtained the highest GWA in all Veterinary Anatomy courses in his/her class, but in no case should the grade be lower than “2.0”. The awardee must have no failing marks in any of his/her Veterinary Anatomy courses. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

2. Bruce H. Brown Award in Veterinary Parasitology

This is awarded to a graduating student who has obtained the highest general weighed average (GWA) in all Parasitology courses in his class, but in no case should the grade be lower than “2.0”. The awardee should have also conducted an undergraduate thesis in the field of Veterinary Parasitology. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

3. E.S. Sarmiento and L.R. Uyenco Award in Veterinary Medicine

This is awarded to a graduating student who has manifested outstanding interest, attitude and performance in Veterinary Clinics. The GWA must not be lower than “2.50’. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

4. Compania J.M., Inc. Award for Excellence in Veterinary Pharmacology and Zootechnics

This is awarded to a graduating student with the best thesis in the field of either Veterinary Physiology or Zootechnics, and whose GWA must not be lower than “2.50” for all required courses in Physiology and Zootechnics. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

5. Teodulo C. Topacio, Sr. Award for Excellence in Veterinary Microbiology

This is awarded to a graduating student who has a GWA not lower than “2.0” in all Veterinary Microbiology courses and has conducted a thesis in the field of Veterinary Microbiology. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

6. Zoilo M. Lapus Award for Excellence in Zootechnics

This is awarded to a graduating student who has obtained the highest GWA in all Zootechnics courses. The awardee must have conducted a thesis in the field of Zootechnics. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

7. Virgilio C. Esguerra Award for Excellence in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology

This is awarded to a graduating student who has obtained the highest GWA in all Physiology and Pharmacology courses but in no case should the grade be lower than “2.50” for all required courses in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

8. Southern California Filipino Veterinary Medical Association (SCFVMA) Award for Best Student Clinician in Small Animal Practice

Year Instituted: 2002

This is awarded to a graduating student who has the highest grade and outstanding performance in the small animal clinic rotation, and whose GWA in all Veterinary Clinics courses is not lower than “2.0”. The award is a UP Oblation statuette and cash.

9. UPLB Alumni Association Student Leadership Award

Year Instituted: 1989

The award is given to the best student leader from among the graduating students. The award is a medal from the UPLB Alumni Association.

10. UPCVM Alumni Association Medal of Academic Excellence

Year Instituted: 1992

This is given to the valedictorian and/or honor member/s of the graduating class.

11. Eli-Lilly Elanco Academic Excellence Award

Year Instituted: 1993

This award is given to the class valedictorian. The award consists of a plaque, cash, and membership to the Eli-Lilly-Elanco Achievement Award Alumni Association.

12. Outstanding Veterinary Student Award

Donor: Intervet Philippines, Inc.
Year Instituted: 2003

This award is given to a deserving graduating student chosen by the College Committee on Graduation. The award is a plaque and cash.

13. Dr. Gerardo S. Esguerra Award for Best Clinical Conference Report

Donor: Dr. Marianne Leila S. Flores, DVM ‘98 and Dr. Michael S. De Ramos, DVM ‘01
Year Instituted: 2008

The main basis for the award is the quality of the case report submitted by the student for VETC 173 or VETC 174. The case report must be comprehensive, well-researched, and of publishable quality, as well as it must present one or more of the following: a novel disease, a novel animal management, and a novel animal disease diagnostics.

14. Philippine College of Swine Practitioners (PCSP) Best Student Clinician in Swine Practice

Donor: Dr. Cesar D. Ballesteros
Year Instituted: 2008

The awardee should have specialization in swine practice and the main basis for the award is swine clinical rotation grades in VETC 171, 172, 175 and 176 which should not be lower than 1.75. The awardee shall be selected by a Committee composed of the following: DVCS Chair, VTH Director, and all clinical faculties involved in the clinical swine rotations.
